One of the most frustrating things that can happen when you’re trying to do laundry is when your dryer won’t turn on. Fortunately, there are some things you can check to troubleshoot and repair when a Bosch dryer won’t turn on.

Bosch Dryer Won’t Turn On? Try This…

When your dryer refuses to start, you may feel hopeless in resolving the issue. You may ask, “Why won’t my dryer turn on?”. However, with a little bit of Bosch dryer troubleshooting, you may find that a simple adjustment or a straightforward repair can be all that is needed.

1. Problems with Incoming Power Supply

One of the most common issues that can cause a Bosch dryer to fail is an interruption in the power supply. Ensure that there is an adequate and appropriate power supply to your dryer. Your Bosch dryer should be plugged directly into a working outlet. Never use an extension cord as a power supply for your dryer. Also, your Bosch dryer not starting can be due to a tripped circuit breaker.

If none of these things are causing the problem, then there may be an issue with the Bosch dryer itself.

2. Dryer Door Not Closing Properly

Another reason your Bosch dryer won’t turn on is if the door is not closed all the way or is not latched. Your Bosch dryer will not start if the door is open or not latched for safety reasons.

Occasionally, loose clothing might get in the way of the door shutting properly. Look for any flapping garments that may be restricting the closing mechanism and remove them.

Pro-Tip: We recommend always closing your dryer door softly and gently, rather than slamming it shut, to avoid future dryer door latch failure. This will extend the lifespan of the latching mechanism and save you money on additional repairs.

If you find that the door won’t latch closed, it’s possible that the door switch is defective and will need to be replaced. For door switch replacement, give a professional Bosch dryer repair technician a call.

3. Wrong Dryer Settings Selected

If your Bosch dryer seems like it should be working but won’t turn on, then check the settings to make sure you’ve selected an appropriate cycle. A Bosch dryer won’t turn on if it is not on a setting that will start immediately.

Also, some Bosch dryers have a Child Lock function that will prevent the dryer from operating if any button is pushed. If the Child Lock option is on, you may observe a key symbol or the letters “CL” on the digital display. Hold down the Start button for 3-5 seconds to disable the Child Lock function.

If your Bosch dryer has a Delayed Start feature, it will not start right away and will begin operation at a specified time. Check your Bosch dryer user manual to learn how to use and turn off this function on your model dryer. Typically, delaying the start of the machine may be accomplished by holding both the Delay Start and Cancel buttons simultaneously.

4. Defective Bosch Dryer Start Switch

Is the Bosch dryer start button not working? If you find that the start button seems to be the problem, then it’s possible that the switch is defective. When the start button is pushed, the switch sends electricity to the motor, so it starts to operate. If the switch isn’t working, it won’t send this signal to the motor, and the dryer won’t start.

To test if your Bosch dryer start switch is faulty and needs to be replaced, open up your dryer and locate the switch. With the power to the dryer turned off, use a multimeter to test for continuity between the two terminals on the switch. If there is no continuity, the switch is defective and will need to be replaced by a professional.

5. Blown Thermal Fuse

Another possible reason your Bosch dryer isn’t working is that the thermal fuse has blown. The thermal fuse is a safety device that is designed to protect your dryer from overheating.

If the thermal fuse has blown, it will need to be replaced by a professional. To prevent the thermal fuse from blowing again in the future, make sure that you clean your lint screen after each load of laundry and vacuum around and behind your dryer on a monthly basis.

If none of these measures work, it’s time to call in a professional dryer repair service. From problems like a Bosch dryer won’t turn on, to a washing machine leak, RD Appliance Service can assist with any laundry appliance issue!
